This was not a post originally scheduled for December, but due to some recent things happening, I wanted to quickly write this post for you.
There seems to be some confusion about social media.
Everything we share on ANY social media regarding articles or posts is based on our website, Chemistry Cachet. If you are reading this article right now, you are on our website.
We have readers from all over the world and all over different social media platforms.
If you are a blogger, you have to have all forms of social media to reach all types of people. We have readers on Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin, Snapchat, Youtube and even Bloglovin.
Some readers only use Instagram, some only use Facebook. This is why as a blog, we have all forms of social media.
What if you don’t have social media?
No problem, you can just read our website every week.
The point of social media is for YOUR convenience. Maybe you only use Facebook. Everyday you scroll through it and find new ideas. Maybe you never actually type in a website on your browser. This is why we share blog post links to Facebook, so you can see them!
If you only use Facebook, remember there are people who hate Facebook and only use Instagram. So, we also share new blog links to Instagram for those readers (along with every platform).
Social Media Upsets Some People
There are some people who don’t use social media at all. That is fine, my husband doesn’t have any social media and never has. He doesn’t even know what Instagram is. If he wants to read Chemistry Cachet, he just types in chemistrycachet.com.
My Grammy doesn’t even own a computer! She also doesn’t have a cell phone nor has she ever used one. I print things out for her to read!
None of my family has any type of social media except Facebook.
The recent giveaway we had, I received some very unpleasant comments about the social media giveaway entries. Here is the thing about that. Chemistry Cachet is a business and full-time job for us. Social media, unfortunately, is a large part of running an online business. To have a successful and thriving website, you must be engaged on social media.
I wish this wasn’t the case, but it is. I spend just as much time running social media platforms as I do researching and writing new articles.
There are also many brands and companies who ONLY use social media. To collaborate with companies, you must be active on social media. Some major brands only target Instagram audiences for instance. This isn’t a rule bloggers have made, but brands. This is the world we live in today.
In order to comply with the FCC rules and laws, our giveaways use a social media entry form. This makes sure everything is legal and safe for our readers. Social media entries are required to make sure people enter properly.
This is another thing to understand about owning a blog, there are rules to follow the government has set in place. We don’t always get to choose how things are done!
The Blog Came First
Chemistry Cachet started in early 2015 way before any social media. So, if you want to read Chemistry Cachet, everything is right here on this website. We have a search bar to make it easier for you to look up information.
We also share each new post on all forms of social media and our monthly newsletter.
If you don’t see something you are looking for, maybe we need to do a blog post on it! You can email me anytime with ideas.
Be Kind Online
With all this being said, please be kind to people who run blogs or websites. It is a tough job, and requires constant learning and navigating through social media. I take courses all the time for social media, website building, and Google because these platforms are CONSTANTLY changing their rules and the way they work.
If someone is a blogger or runs a website, just reach out to them with a request. Send an email or private message if you have concerns. Don’t immediately think they are doing something wrong!
If a company or person makes a mistake in their writing, grammar, or you don’t agree with something they did, kindly let them know. We are all willing to help and do things to make sure our readers have a good experience.
This is a full-time job, but I am also a mother and wife full-time. I wake up at 4:00am to get work done, and stay up late to finish things. Many business owners are doing this for their families. Because this is an online business, many people think their comments are not seen or there are not real people running these websites. We are very real, and hateful comments can be hurtful.
I have seen an increasing number of hateful comments and disgruntled people online towards bloggers this season. Not Chemistry Cachet, but other bloggers I follow or engage with. Many think that being online means you can voice anything that comes to mind. On the other end, some think there is no room for error when it comes to an online business.
You can’t keep this type of thing away, but I hope this can help you understand the hard work and time that goes into an online business.
Why I am Writing This
The easiest way to explain things is a blog post. Social media is hard to write on with limited space for words, and it can be hard to get a message across. Instead, I wanted to take the time to address some issues to help you as a reader.
Each of our readers are important, and we care on Chemistry Cachet.
This is a fun website for learning new things, so it is meant to be an enjoyable experience.
Thank you everyone for your support!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
You are always welcome to email me with any questions or concerns 🙂

Excellent post! I didn’t know how much work it takes to run your blog and social media, so I say THANK YOU for your dedication and sharing your love of chemistry in our lives. I choose not to be on social media but enjoy reading what is out there. I’ve read/seen the “trolls” and they can be mean. You keep on being you, doing what you do… As Tim McGraw’s song says, be humble and kind. ?

Thanks so much Laurie! There seems to be so much confusion out there about social media, so I thought this would be a good post to share!

I cannot fathom why people would write nasty things to you. You are doing such a wonderful job and are to generous with your time. I’m sorry some people have treated you and your business so poorly. Shame on them. You are amazing and I think they are truly missing out on something and someone so thoughtful, grateful, and kind. Thank you for all you do!
Alexis says
Thanks so much Heather for your kind comment! I am thankful for a wonderful audience and readers like you 🙂

This is beautifully written. I enjoy your blog. I am minimally on Facebook and I see that there are people that use the anonymity of electronic life just to be mean and bullying. This is a very sad situation of our society and culture. Keep on being you.
Alexis says
Thanks Sarah! It really is sad to see people being so mean online 🙁
Julie says
Alexis, I love your blog and all of the ideas/methods you share backed by your Chemistry!
When jealous people, or people without purpose are mean, sometimes that is their only outlet which is very sad. So, you keep looking toward the stars and sharing your amazing energy and positive out look.
All the best and Merry Christmas,
Julie

Thanks Julie! Yes, that is so true! I think it is also when people don’t understand how things work. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Well I am one of those people who don’t understand. I am so bad with the computer. Having said that I would never bash anyone. Shame shame on them. Thank you for all the work you do. It’s truly appreciated. Thank you also for sharing you precious girl with us. She brings such joy.
Alexis says
Most of my family is not into computers or social media either! So, I definitely understand that 🙂 Thanks so much Denise!

Quite well written and explained! THANK YOU for providing information that made me better informed as I too am a person who does not use any social media platforms. I appreciate new learning. In many workplaces, people on the outside do not understand that there are policies and procedures that workers must adhere to even if it’s not what they, the consumer wants them to be. I’m grateful that I am now more knowledgeable and I will remember that it’s my choice not to participate in social media the next time a giveaway happens and I cannot participate.
Alexis says
Thanks Keri! I wish things weren’t so complicated, but it seems in today’s time, things get more and more complex! Even something so simple like a giveaway. I hope this post can help everyone ❤️❤️
