In chemistry, we have this thing called a checklist. It’s something you absolutely have to follow to make sure you are prepared for an experiment, and to make sure you do everything correctly. If you don’t follow that list, things probably won’t go well.
Now that I use chemistry for more fun things like baking, I still follow a checklist. Do I have the ingredients? Do I have the correct utensils ready to go? Do I know I have my ingredients? Either way, checklists are important to get anything done right.
I realized the other day, I was getting a little disorganized in general. Almost like things got away with me the past few months, and then I get overwhelmed because there are so many projects and things to get done around the house, and I don’t even know where to start! Do you ever feel that way?
Well, I decided to use that chemist expertise and make a checklist for things that need to get done in my life right now.
What’s On My Checklist Right Now?
â—ŠThe closet!
My closet is a cluttered mess! I literally have clothes that I have worn since early high school! I still wear them, but it is time to let it go. I have tried a few time off and on the past few months, but the truth is I need to make a list of what I need, what I don’t need and have everything prepared before I tackle it.
â—ŠThe pantry!
It is almost the heart of baking season and my pantry is so inefficient right now! And I bake so many cookies for people, it needs to help! This is something else I need to sit down with, make a list of what I have, and figure out what I need to stock it well. I also need to get some better storage bins to clean up the clutter.
â—ŠCraft Area!
My office has a craft area in it with all my DIY tools, scrapbook stuff, paper, etc. I haven’t gone through it in awhile and it is overwhelming. With Christmas coming up, I need to have a more enjoyable area for crafts and wrapping gifts. I need to really go through everything I have so I don’t buy unnecessary things this holiday season! Plus, things are just more inviting to work in when they are organized and pretty!
â—ŠOur Bedroom!
It’s just dull and cluttered right now, I really want to rearrange it and some more lights! Since my husband works evenings, it is hard to keep the room picked up during the day, so I just want to make this a little more efficient too!
And Lastly…
â—ŠThe Yard!
I posted my super easy yard checklist last month, but I really need to start in on it. The weather has been so HOT this month, it has really put a damper on the yard. The first nice weather weekend, I look forward to cleaning up everything so we can enjoy our pergola and porch swing this fall!
Now that I have posted this, I will be accountable for it! I will update you on the projects 🙂 I plan on doing some organization posts soon too!
Do you have to make good lists to get things done? What is on your project list right now?

I can truly relate! Seems that life in general can get out of control very quickly. I am needing to organize my sewing room. A real struggle right now. I am a list maker also. Feels so good to put a big check mark by something that is accomplished Good luck with your tasks!
Oh yes, those check marks are the best feeling! Thanks Lynn, I am excited to get started on it!
Posting to hold yourself accountable? Best method I’ve found for actually doing things! 🙂
It definitely is!!!
Love these projects, I definitely need to get working on the closet and the pantry! And loving that pic of you with your sweet pup <3

Thanks Kate! I am excited to get started on them!
I am really weird because cleaning out my pantry is one of my favorite things to do! Probably because I get to go shopping for more yummy food to fill it up afterward.
That is definitely one fun thing about it, cleaning it, then filling it with awesome stuff!!
Organization is key to being productive for sure. I am learning to be more organized!!
It definitely is!
Isn’t blogging your goals awesome for accountability?! It truly does make you want to get things done! Your checklist could be mistaken for mine – many of the same areas need the same amount of work. Maybe we should host a challenge! Surely we aren’t the only ones, right?! Thanks so much for linking up with Waiting on…Wednesday! Hope you get a few things checked off your list this weekend!
It really is! Umm yes we should host a challenge, that would be awesome!
I am SUCH a checklist maker! Even my planner (the simplified planner) has a section for daily todos. I’m obsessed!
Me too girl, they make me feel so much better!
Happy Wednesday Alexis. Your checklist is great. One of my checklist items would be to clean out the eating utensil and cooking utensil drawers in the kitchen. I know it wouldn’t take long, but it’s the first step that’s the biggest. Another big one would be my beading/jewelry making area. All those strands of beads, plus loose ones…That could take several days, maybe weeks! But first, spa trip with girlfriends!
I definitely need to work on my jewelry too, I always forget about that! A spa trip sounds like so much fun! I hope you enjoy that!
I call mine the ta-da list so when I check something off I can say ta-da!
That’s awesome! Such a great feeling!
This is so nice. I miss ding tons of checklist to get on track. This is such a nice post.

Thanks so much Jeini!
I often have a checklist when I have many chores to do
Me too! It definitely helps!
Your dog is adorable! I like making to do lists because it allows me to relax, rather than trying to keep everything I need to do in my thoughts. I used to get stressed trying to remember all the things I needed to get done, but knowing it’s on a list helps me let it go until I have time to get to it. My to do list is full right now too (though when is it not? lol)! I could have used a more organized chemist list for the last project I did. I made so many mistakes because I was trying to do it in my spare time without being organized. 🙂
Thank you Rachael, he is definitely my baby 🙂 I am the same way, I start getting super stressed out when I try to remember everything. Writing stuff down makes it seem so much more doable!
I am always trying to clean my closet. I hold on to things from eons ago, maybe not high school but long, long ago, I get attached to my clothes. Is that unhealthy? I dunno. But I genuinely like some of my clothes. So I totally feel you on knowing it’s time to let them go but not really being able to do the act.
Have you read Mari Kondo’s book: The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up?
I haven’t read that book, but I have heard so much about it. Have you read it? I need to check it out!
Yes! I have a list for everything. I’m not even sure I could function without one. Right now 90% of it are tasks to get ready for the new baby. Get the clothes organized, wash the swaddle blankets, stock up on diapers, wipes, and snacks for the rest of rest of the family…ect.
Congrats on the new baby, how fun!!
Your list sounds a lot like mine right now… but I think mine is even longer 🙂 Thanks for sharing at the #HomeMattersParty – hope to see you again next week!
Thanks Chelsea! I look forward to linking up again 🙂
I still make lists the old fashion way – pen and paper. There is something about checking it off that agrees with me. Thanks for sharing once again on Tuesday Talk. I love having you.
It really make it so much more satisfying when you get to write it and check it off! Thanks so much Michelle!
