Today we are going to go into some important detail on why hyaluronic acid is crucial for your skin!

Hyaluronic acid has been a favorite skincare ingredient of mine for many years because it is versatile, great for almost anyone, and it works!

I think hyaluronic acid is crucial for your skin health, and the sooner you start incorporating it into your routine, the better!

Be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the post on why I like these products, but I thought I would share these before we start the article too because many readers just like to know the best products:) I want it to be convenient for you, so I am placing here too.

My favorite tried and true hyaluronic acid products are below.

One of the reasons I love Good Science Beauty products is they use the Good Silicon+ delivery method, so you get much more out of the ingredients. This makes the hyaluronic acid work better! I also love the FRÉ Dark Circle Cream because it uses hyaluronic acid and adipolis to combat dark circles.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Let’s review a little bit what hyaluronic acid is. Hyaluronic acid a humectant which means it is a substance that retains moisture and can bind over one thousand times its weight in water.

Hyaluronic acid is also found naturally in the body like your skin, eyes, and joint tissue. We go into more detail on this in our hyaluronic acid supplement post.

Different Ways Hyaluronic Acid Can Be Used

There are three ways HA (hyaluronic acid) is used. It can be used orally, topically, or as an injection under the skin. Many beauty supplements contain HA as a ingredient, and I have also taken a liquid drink with HA. One of my favorite collagen supplements contains HA in it also.

If you go to an office to get a filler, it is probably hyaluronic acid. People will get fillers in their lips and under the eyes.

The most common way to use HA is topically though. This is what we will discuss today. Using hyaluronic acid in your skincare routine is easy and can have big effects if you use it right.

Benefits of Topical Hyaluronic Acid

I wanted to go over the benefits of topical HA again because it really is amazing how fantastic it is for your skin.

Replenishes Moisture

Even though it’s an acid, it is fantastic for dry skin. One gram of hyaluronic acid can hold 6 liters of water! That’s amazing for a molecule like this. And it does this for our skin too. It retains moisture without being heavy or oily. If you want super soft skin, this acid will help you achieve that! This is why I love the Good Science Beauty’s hydrating facial. It provides intense hydration due to the hyaluronic acid and omega-3 to plump skin.

Dark Circles

Many don’t know about this benefit, but HA is very beneficial for dark circles. It is found in many eye creams for this reason. My favorite dark circle cream features HA as one of the main ingredients.

Anti-inflammatory

Hyaluronic acid is also proven to reduce inflammation.

Fights Wrinkles

As we age, the hyaluronic acid in our skin diminishes. This dries out skin and causes wrinkles to begin. By using HA, you can help your skin stay more youthful and fight wrinkles. It doesn’t just work on the top layer like many other acids, but penetrates deeper to fight aging. My other favorite Good Science Beauty product is the hydrating face cream which not only plumps, but works to fight wrinkles.

Protection from UVB Rays

In some of my research, I have found that hyaluronic acid can help your skin stay protected from the suns UVB rays. According to this article, HA basically protects epithelial cells from UVB injury! UVB rays are the most damaging rays from the sun that cause premature aging, sunspots, uneven skin tone, and also drys out the skin. Protecting against UVB is so important! Regular use of HA is great for this.

Collagen Development

Hyaluronic Acid keeps collagen development up by keeping skin moisturized. Since it doesn’t just work on the top layer, but also goes deeper, this helps collagen to continue forming. Collagen keeps skin supple and young! Read this post about the function of collagen for other parts of the body.

Locating Hyaluronic Acid on a Label

This is another review from our other post, but here is how you can locate HA on a skincare product.

  • Sodium Hyaluronate
  • Hyaluran
  • Hyaluronan
  • Hylan
  • Glycoaminoglycane

The most common form is sodium hyaluronate.

Does Any Product Work?

Unfortunately, having the terms above in the ingredient list doesn’t mean you will get benefits from it. It is important the molecule is the right size for it to penetrate skin. Without knowing much about the chemistry in products, it takes a lot of testing to see which once gives results! I have tried and tested hundreds of skincare products for this website over the last eight years now. It is amazing how many of them don’t work, and many are expensive too. I love getting to share with you products that actually work!

My favorite tried and true hyaluronic acid products are below.

One of the reasons I love Good Science Beauty products is they use the Good Silicon+ delivery method, so you get much more out of the ingredients. This makes the hyaluronic acid work better! I have also really enjoyed using the dark circle cream listed below because it combats all types of dark circles and uses hyaluronic acid as one of the main ingredients. Of all the serums I have tried, The Ordinary brand below is a good option. If you choose just one, I would go for the face cream because it works for the entire face.
