1. Steam-Loosen Before You Scrub

How to do it:

Place a microwave-safe bowl of water with lemon slices and white vinegar inside your microwave. Heat for 3–5 minutes, (full blog post on cleaning microwave here) then keep the door closed for another 2 minutes. Wipe everything clean.

Why it works:

Steam loosens dried-on food by breaking the bonds holding grime to surfaces. The moisture rehydrates hardened messes, so they wipe away effortlessly.

2. Dust First, Then Vacuum

How to do it:

Start by dusting ceiling fans, shelves, and baseboards before vacuuming or mopping. I grab my favorite duster and start with the ceiling and ceiling fans, then walls and furniture, and then the floor. After that, I vacuum everything really well! This can be the key to making your dusting last longer.

Why it works:

Dust particles are lightweight and easily resettle. Cleaning from the top down uses gravity to your advantage and prevents undoing your own work. Following up with a good vacuum session can make sure the dust particles don’t end up recirculating.

Best tools to use:

This extendable duster for high areas.

3. Dawn + Warm Water Mixture for Grease

How to do it:

Mix 1/2  cup warm water with just a few drops of dish soap. Use it to clean greasy cabinet handles, stovetop knobs, or even jewelry.

Why it works:

Dish soap contains surfactants which are molecules that attach to grease and lift it into water so it rinses away cleanly. A small amount works better than you think. Don’t overlook those knobs and handles over your home that need a good cleaning! And don’t skip the warm water.
