Today we are sharing some fun, healthy additions for coffee to try right now! Things to add to your coffee besides creamer 🙂

Fresh coffee brewing in the morning is one of the most comforting smells. Even my husband who hates the taste of coffee, loves it when I pour a fresh cup because the smell is so delicious.

I don’t know about you, but I get SO bored with the same old coffee additions. Creamer is good, but it gets old after awhile! Traditionally, I drink my daily coffee black, but sometimes I need a little kick or boost for something different.

Instead of a coffee recipe today, I thought I would share with you five awesome additions for coffee besides creamer that you can use in a second.

Five Healthy Additions for Coffee to Try Right Now

Coffee has health benefits, but it is the things we add to it that makes it bad for us. Creamers, sugars, and chemicals will turn a simple cup of coffee to something unhealthy, but these things also make your sluggish. The point of caffeine is to give you the perfect pick me up, not make you tired after. Sugar crashes are real! Instead, there are may healthy things to add to coffee you will really enjoy!

By the way, after you brew a cup, save your leftover coffee grounds for one of these awesome projects.

I love the science behind coffee, so I love sharing things for my fellow coffee lovers too.

Be sure to check out our coffee tab for more inspiration.

1. Maple Syrup!

Add a few drops of this to your cup, and it is like fall in a cup! If you want to make your coffee taste good without creamer, try this! I like to use 100% maple syrup from my local store, but try whatever you have on hand.

Whatever type you choose, just remember you only need a drop or two. It adds the best flavor, plus maple syrup is good for you in small amounts. Many of our readers follow special diets, like Paleo, so maple syrup is a common staple. Here is some more information about using maple syrup in a good way, like for a paleo diet!

I also like to use honey! Honey has a different taste than maple syrup, some people prefer it. Since honey also has great anti-inflammatory benefits, it is even better! Remember to use raw honey for the best health benefits.

Big Waffle breakfast t2. Cinnamon

I put cinnamon on everything! I love it.  You can add cinnamon to your coffee grounds before you brew it, or you can add it to your cup of coffee directly.

This has such a great flavor, plus cinnamon is actually a great metabolism booster and can improve blood sugar levels. This source also mention how it can lower cholesterol. If you would like some great information on cinnamon for health and around your home, be sure to check out this post we did a few years ago.

3. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil works as a great energizer with healthy fats, it is perfect to start the day with. It also makes your coffee so creamy! I read about this in a health article last year, but recently tried it.

It works best with a blender to incorporate all the oils. I added some stevia to it as well and it turned out really good! This is a great tutorial about it!

4. Vanilla Extract in Coffee

You know I had to put this one in here! I’m a chemist after all 🙂 I love extracts in everything! I have about 20 different types in my pantry! Vanilla extract is the best, but more of my favorites to add to coffee are  pumpkin spice, maple, hazelnut, caramel, and almond.

I recently purchased this Maple Alcohol-Free flavor and it is really good quality for the price.

You can also make your own extract like vanilla.

5. Steamed Milk

This turns a regular cup of coffee into more of a latte!

I love warming up some vanilla almond milk in the microwave or on the stove until steamy, then add it to my coffee. Really good!

You can try all types of milk for this too!

So, try out something new and different for your coffee because after all, every morning needs coffee, right?! :)These are great for hot and iced coffee recipes, even blended coffee!!

Do you have any other awesome additions for coffee?

Enjoy!!
