First, we are going to share with you the three items you need for successful blackhead removal and long-term treatment.
Then, we will explain a little science behind this so you can know how to be blackhead free forever!
Items Needed For Getting Rid of Blackheads:
- Facial Steamer (Not required, but highly recommended, this is the one I have)
- Niacinamide Serum (I like this one best)
- Purifying Facial Mask (I love this purifying face mask (get $25 off with code Blackhead25) with willow bark)
Directions:
- Wash your face well before using the facial steamer. I use this inexpensive one from Amazon, and it is awesome! I highly recommend getting one of these to treat pores, it has been a game changer for me.
- Once you have steamed, you can use the tools that come with the steamer to extract blackheads on the nose or chin area (or whatever area you have them).
- Apply a layer of the Niacinamide serum directly onto the area where blackheads were. I just do a spot treatment on these areas.
- Apply your regular skincare to the rest of your face, you can apply a layer of blemish based moisturizer on top of the niacinamide if you have some. If not, just leave that area covered in niacinamide.
- I do this routine every day for a few days until the area looks almost free of blackheads.
- For maintenance, you can keep up with minimizing pores and black heads by using a good purifying mask like this one from Good Science Beauty. I use this twice a week on my nose and cheeks. By the way, you can use code blackhead25 for $25 the purifying face mask and the purifying cream!
How Do These Steps Work To Combat Blackheads?
Using a facial steamer is really a key point to helping with blackheads. I got a facial last year, and she steamed my face after washing it. She said this helped open up your pores and allowed the skincare products to soak in better. It also helps clean your pores out better too!
When I started using a facial steamer, I saw the biggest difference! Facial steamers are great for all types of skin issues because it really cleans your skin, but also allows your skin to soak up skincare more effectively.
Niaciamide Serum
This ingredient is one of the best there is for blemishes and minimizing pores. Scientifically, this power-house ingredient works shrink pores. By shrinking pores, you will be less prone to blackheads. I use this serum for blemishes, and it can help overnight! It is also great using routinely for things like this. I dab it only my nose and cheeks.
Willow Bark
Willow bark is another fantastic ingredient which is why I love the purifying mask Good Science Beauty has. You can use it as a spot treatment, so I love just using it directly on my nose. It is great for maintenance, but also works to diminish pores and blackheads too. This purifying face mask is so smooth and doesn’t burn, after washing off, my skin is so soft and smooth! This product also contains niacinamide, so it makes it even more powerful for this type of treatment. They also have a purifying face cream which uses the same ingredients. If you have blemish prone skin, these work great together.
Willow bark is sometimes called natures aspirin because this is where aspirin is actually derived from. If you remember from this post we did on aspirin years ago, we talked about the history of aspirin. Willow bark is a great anti-inflammatory, so it is helpful for blemishes, blackheads, and irritated skin.
How long does this keep blackheads away?
If you follow these methods and keep up treatment with a good purifying face mask, they will stay away for good! I also recommend keeping up with your facial steamer because it helps open pores, clean face, and will allow all of your products to soak in better.
Blackheads have been one of my longest skin issues. I had them as a teenage and even as an adult. My nose is blackhead free now!
Will This Work For Other Blemishes?
Yes! This is going to be a great method for all types of blemishes you have.

So happy for this information! Blackheads on my nose have been the bane of my face for almost 50 years. How long do you steam?
Alexis says
I usually do about 5 minutes or so! It has been helpful!

Hello,
I ordered the steamer you recommended but it didn’t come with instructions for using the tools. Do you know where I could find instructions? Thank you!
Alexis says
Hi! That is weird it didn’t come with any! I tried to find my original box, but I have had this for so many years now, I am not sure where mine is. You can try to contact the brand on Amazon, do a YouTube search to see how to use the extraction tools (they are pretty generic to others on the market), or I can give you a quick rundown on them. For the tools, after you steam your face and gently dry it off, you use the tools for extraction. I have found I only use one or two of them and it might be a little trial and error to see which one works best for you. I use one of the tools on my nose and chin area. I don’t use them on any other surface since this is the only place I seem to have buildup occur. If you have another spot, I would look on YouTube to see if there is any videos for that. I hope this helps, but let me know if I can answer anything else!
