Tips on maintaining timber decking

We have many readers contact us about wood maintenance of different types, especially after winter.

Today we have an awesome graphic to share with full of tips on maintaining timber decking. These tips will carry you out over the next few seasons to make sure you get your decking the care it needs to make it look nice and preserve it.

Scientifically, weather can be tough on wood. It will deteriorate over time and eventually rot. Here in Texas, we almost can’t do anything with wood due to our extremely harsh summers, sun, tornadoes, hail and then cold winters. This is why we built our wood pergola extra sturdy and stain it well each year.

If you do build a deck with wood, each year requires important care tips to keep it in the best shape for as long as possible.

Crowe Sawmills reached out to me with a fantastic graphic to share with our readers. I know many of you have asked questions about this, so here are some tips from the professionals.

This is GREAT info Alexis! We are always having to check our woodwork (deck, window sills, posts). Hubby is good about this. Cleaning and staining can be time-consuming but so important. We are waiting for spring to replace my parents wood railings – dry rot. Thanks for sharing this!!!

It is so time consuming! I always dread doing it to our fence, but always so glad when we do. Thanks Laurie!

Great deck care tips! It is so important to upkeep your deck so that it stays looking good for years. Decks can be expensive to replace if you don’t take proper care of them, especially the wood ones. Thank you for sharing your post at the #HomeMattersParty – we hope you will link up with us again on Friday.

I appreciate you talking about how trees and bushes should be at least 12 inches from your timber feature. It makes sense that taking the time to do this can help you avoid shortening its life and having accidents. I understand that in situations like this it would be a good idea to consult with a professional you trust in order to provide the maintenance your wood needs.
