This easy baked chocolate donut recipe is amazing! I wish you could taste it right now because it is one of the best treats you will eat that is totally allergy-free!
This is the last installment of our summer brunch series. Last week we shared some amazing stuff with you. A frozen fruit cake with homemade jam, sweet potato hash, and elements to the perfect brunch. There was even a free printable to use!
I saved the best for last, and these are definitely the best!
I just love donuts! Or doughnuts if you prefer They are so fun to make and just as fun to eat!
If you read this post about my all-time favorite nifty kitchen items, this donut pan was high on the list. I use it weekly for things, so I knew this summer brunch had to have some donuts.
The challenge of this brunch was to create delicious recipes that could fit anyone’s dietary needs. That means it couldn’t have gluten, dairy, egg or nuts. It was a little tricky, but the results turned out great. Make sure you check out all the posts from last week, plus the menu planning idea so you can create it at home too! Just Betty Blog also shared some of her details for the brunch.
Alright let’s get right into this easy baked chocolate donut recipe!
- 1/4 cup coconut flour
- 1/4 cup dutched cococa **
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 flax eggs**
- 2 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp coconut sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1/4 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- 1/3 cup Enjoy Life Dairy-free Chocolate Chips
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray a donut pan, set aside.
- Create your flax eggs. See notes below for details on that! Let this sit for about 10 minutes before adding to the recipe.
- Add in all the dry ingredients and mix until combined. Also see notes below for using dutched cocoa!
- Add in the wet ingredients, including the flax egg. Mix until just combined.
- Last, stir in the chocolate chips, but save a few to put on the top.
- Top all the donuts with a few chocolate chips. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until donuts are firm.
- All to cool in the pan for a few minutes.
- This STEP IS IMPORTANT. Coconut flour is crumbly, so they can fall apart. Using a wire wrack, place on top of the donut pan, then flip over. Give it a little shake and the donuts should all be upside down on the rack.
- Cool completely before serving.
Find out why I use dutched cocoa in this post. Make sure to read this post for details on using flax eggs! Homemade vanilla extract works great for this, here is a good tutorial to have on hand.

The chemist tip for this recipe is about the flour. There are many options for gluten-free baking, but most of the recipes for this brunch use coconut flour. Coconut flour is a great grain-free option with almost no aftertaste like some all-purpose gluten-free flour has. The important thing to remember about coconut flour is the texture. It has a crumbly texture that doesn’t bind quite like other flours.
You will always want to make sure to allow these donuts to COOL completely before picking them up. Also be careful when removing from the donut pan as they can break apart when they are still warm.
I always use the flip trick for things like this. Just use a wire rack, place on top of the donut pan, and flip. They will come out upside down, but intact! Then, I just leave them there for 30 minutes or so. That should ensure they turn out just right
