What Are The Benefits of Making Homemade Cleaners

I’ve recently had some interesting comments from people who found our website through search engines or somewhere online. Many ask, what are the benefits of making homemade cleaners? A few say, why would I go to all that trouble when I can buy this brand at the store to use and it works fine?

This made me realize that not everyone understands the true benefits of making homemade cleaners. All of our long-time readers love them and enjoy all the tips we share, but people new to our website might be curious.

If you already make your own homemade cleaners, you might learn something from this list today too! Creating homemade cleaners has more benefits than you might think.

What Are The Benefits of Making Homemade Cleaners?

Homemade cleaners, benefits of making homemade cleaners

1. You Can Save Money

I am sharing this one first because it is what most people think of when making homemade cleaners. And it’s true! Making homemade cleaners can save you money. For instance, this homemade carpet cleaner costs less than a few cents to make, but works just as well as store-bought cleaners that range from $3-$4 per bottle.

Some of our readers are on a tight budget, so it really helps to have the option on saving money.

2. It Eliminates Toxic Chemicals

Another important reason to make your own homemade cleaners is the elimination of toxic chemicals. Now, I have had some people stumble upon this website and say, “But isn’t that item your using still a chemical??” Technically, all the items you use in everyday life are chemicals. The important thing is eliminating toxic chemicals that might impact your health. Toxic chemicals are very popular in store-bought cleaners because they work well. Aerosol cleaners are usually the highest in toxic chemicals. Stop over to this VERY important post about eliminating chemicals in the home to learn more.

Although items like dish soap contain chemicals that allow them to clean so well, they aren’t toxic. It is a big difference!

3. It is Much Safer for People with Breathing Issues

This goes along with eliminating toxic chemicals, but it is definitely one of the important benefits of making homemade cleaners. My mom has really bad asthma, and there are so many things that trigger it. Fireplace smoke, perfumes, aerosols, dust, and the list goes on.  She can’t walk into a place that has a strong, pungent cleaning scent without having to walk out immediately.

Every cleaner we make is safe for anyone who has respiratory issues. For instance, I had someone ask me on this 2 ingredient mold remover why I wouldn’t just use bleach? They said it was cheap and effective. Well, bleach is incredibly toxic for those who have issues breathing (and really for anyone). Our mold remover provides a safer alternative that anyone can use on any surface without getting sick or causing danger.

You can also use this 2-ingredient carpet refresher to eliminate odors without any type of pungent perfume scent.

4. Homemade Cleaners are Convenient!

The reason I love homemade cleaners? The convenience! Our eBook is full of so many different recipes, you never have to worry about running out of cleaner. One of the reasons I made my first homemade cleaner 10 years ago was simply because I ran out of carpet cleaner! I just threw together some things I had and cleaned the stain.

We give you so many options to make your own cleaners too. Like using tea bags for cleaning your window! If you are out of window cleaner, no problem!

5. These Cleaners are Safe for Kids AND Pets.

If you have children, babies, or pets around your home, you really want to make sure they don’t get into anything toxic. Everything we make is safe for all of them. They can walk over carpets or floors that have been cleaned without harming their feet (or paws). Anything they touch with homemade cleaners is much safer than store-bought cleaners.

6. They Actually Work

How many times have you purchased a cleaner from the store, but then it didn’t work very well? I have bought so many cleaners that didn’t get the job done like I wanted. The benefits of making homemade cleaners (especially the ones we share) are how well they work. For just a few cents and a few ingredients, you can clean your entire home from top to bottom. And it works!

6. It’s FUN.

Lastly, it’s just fun to make your own things. Plus, we always share the chemistry behind why it works, so you can really understand how cool the science of cleaning is! I have found that readers really enjoy learning about the “why” because it makes the process more interesting.

Benefits of Homemade Cleaners Conclusion:

In conclusion, you can see the benefits of homemade cleaners is more than just about saving money (although it can do this too). It can add so much convenience, but it can even keep your home more clean too! Since creating my own cleaners at home, I have been able to keep things healthier and cleaner.

Very interesting post… with all the toxic chemicals in commercial cleaners, which can irritate sensitivities, I can see why you’d want to stick to the “basics” for cleaning products. Hubby recently used a commercial mildew remover in the bathroom – it smelled for several days! Caution needs to be taken for any solution, but your formulas take a lot of the risk out… And I love to learn about the “why does it work”.

I donโ€™t have anything specific for HE. Arm and Hammer brand washing soda says it is safe for HE. You can look at their website for more information on this, but that is always a good option for laundry

I’ve been making a multi purpose cleaning solution for the past 15 years. I’m in the process of getting a provisional patent. I’d like to know what your take or advice can you give me.

I have used an attorney to do paperwork for patents and copyrights, they were able to do it all for me so I didn’t miss a step.
