Why Everyone Is Talking About Microneedling Facials, Plus My Personal Experience

I recently tried a microneedling facial at Revision Aesthetics and Wellness with RN Amy Roach, and I loved learning more about the science  and benefits of a microneedling facial.

As someone with a chemistry background, I’m always fascinated by treatments that work with the body’s natural processes instead of against them. Microneedling was especially interesting to me because it stimulates your skin’s own collagen production, helping improve texture, firmness, fine lines, and even acne scars over time.

If you’ve been curious about microneedling but aren’t sure what it actually does, here’s what I learned from my experience.

Also, if you are new to our platform I wanted to give you a quick intro on the skincare goals I am hoping to achieve as a chemist. Here at Chemistry Cachet, we love sharing simple, realistic ways to support healthy, youthful-looking skin. While consistent at-home skincare is always the foundation of good skin health, certain facials and professional treatments can also be beneficial when used thoughtfully.

Personally, I tend to prefer a more natural approach to aging gracefully, focusing on skincare, collagen support, and skin health while trying to avoid Botox and fillers whenever possible.

What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a cosmetic skin treatment that uses very tiny needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. While that might sound intimidating, the purpose is actually to trigger your skin’s natural healing response.

As your skin repairs itself, it produces more collagen and elastin. These are two important proteins responsible for keeping skin firm, smooth, and youthful-looking.

Benefits of a Microneedling Facial

One thing I found especially impressive is how versatile microneedling can be for different ages and skin types. Research has shown that microneedling can help improve acne scars and skin texture by stimulating collagen production within the skin.

Some of the most common benefits include:

  • Smoother skin texture
  • Reduction in fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improvement in acne scars
  • Firmer-looking skin
  • Smaller-looking pores
  • Brighter, healthier-looking complexion
  • Better absorption of skincare products

While everyone’s results are different, many people notice an initial glow within about 1–2 weeks after treatment. Since collagen production continues over time, results often keep improving around the 6–8 week mark.

What the Treatment Felt Like

Before my appointment, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect. A numbing cream was applied beforehand, which helped make the treatment very manageable.

The sensation felt more like light vibration and pressure than pain. Certain areas of the face were slightly more sensitive, but overall the process was much easier than I anticipated.

Day by Day Results:

A few hours afterward, my skin looked a little pink for about a day. Similar to a mild sunburn.

Day 2: A little pink and a little dry.

Day 3: All pinkness gone and just some flakiness.

Day 4: Slight dryness to the skin.

Day 5: All dryness gone and no pink or red coloring. Skin is looking bright and healthy! Picture below

By the following week, my skin already felt smoother and looked brighter.

Week Two: My skin looked fantastic, bright, smooth and exfoliated! Pores appear smaller and wrinkles too.

Who Might Benefit From Microneedling?

Microneedling can be a great option for people wanting gradual, natural-looking skin improvement without more aggressive procedures. There are no harsh chemicals or toxic ingredients in microneedling, so it is a great option for anyone who wants a more natural anti-aging process. The cost of a microneedling facial is typically much less than any other type of facial you might get. While price varies from place to place, it is usually less than a hydrafacial too.

It may be especially helpful for:

  • Mild acne scarring
  • Early signs of aging
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Dull skin
  • Fine lines

However, it’s always important to consult with a licensed skincare professional to determine whether it’s appropriate for your skin type and goals. Since I have had skin cancer, I always ask my dermatologist what he thinks about skincare treatments and products before I try anything new.

Microneedling Aftercare Tips

One thing I learned is that aftercare really matters for getting the best results.

A few common recommendations include:

  • No makeup or skincare products for 18 hours
  • Avoid direct sun exposure for several days
  • Wear sunscreen consistently
  • Avoid harsh exfoliants immediately afterward
  • Keep skin hydrated
  • Follow your provider’s skincare instructions carefully

Because your skin is healing after treatment, gentle skincare is especially important during recovery.

My Overall Thoughts

I really appreciate treatments that support the skin’s own repair process rather than relying on harsh approaches, and this felt like a very natural way to encourage healthier-looking skin over time.  There are several levels they can use, but for the most part it just felt like tiny pokes on the skin or not much at all.

My skin was light pink afterwards and for a few hours, but overall it was very minimal. Now a few weeks out, my skin looks fantastic!

There are no harsh chemicals involved in this treatment which is another plus for me.

If you’re local to Stephenville and interested in learning more about microneedling, I had a wonderful experience at Revision Aesthetics and Wellness with RN Amy Roach. I also get a hydrafacial there!

While results can vary depending on skin type and individual goals, I can definitely understand why this treatment has become so popular!

Frequently Asked Questions About Microneedling

Does microneedling hurt?

Most providers use numbing cream beforehand, which makes the treatment much more comfortable than many people expect. I didn’t feel much of anything, maybe a 2 on a scale from 1-10 along the jaw.

How long does it take to see results?

Some people notice a glow within 1–2 weeks, but collagen production continues over several weeks, with fuller results often appearing around 6–8 weeks later. I personally noticed less than two weeks after the procedure my skin looked great and youthful.

Is there downtime after microneedling?

Most people experience mild redness for 1–3 days, depending on treatment intensity. You want to use caution with makeup and sun exposure for about 72 hours.

How many sessions are usually recommended?

Many people benefit from a series of treatments spaced several weeks apart, especially for acne scars or deeper skin concerns.

Amy said you can do it as much as every 6-8 weeks if you need it, or even just a few times per year. With that being said, you can just do one microneedling facial and still get benefits!

Is microneedling safe for all skin types?

Microneedling is considered safe for many skin types, but it’s important to consult with a qualified provider for personalized guidance.
