Make Your Own Marble Tray For Less Than $5!

Super cute DIY Marble Tray for less than $5. Pefect for a gift! chemistrycachet.comI love anything marble especially marble serving trays! They are so chic and make anything look nice. Of course, anything marble like is fairly expensive at home decor stores, so I decided to make my own!

You may have seen this pop up in some pictures over the  last few months, like this Belgian cookie coffee! I made it awhile ago just for fun and I loved how it turned out. Then, I realized this would make a perfect gift for Christmas!

You can make your own marble tray for less than $5 in very little time, it’s a win win!

Make Your Own Super Cute Marble Tray For Less than $5! Makes a great gift too!My favorite thing about this tray is how it makes the perfect coaster for drinks too. I always set my coffee on it or ice water. It is also perfect for a cheese tray or little snacks!

I bought all the supplies at Lowe’s at my total was a little less than $5! Here’s how you can make your own marble tray too!

Supplies:

  • Piece of tile cut (I did a 12×6, but you can use any size you want!)
  • Super glue ( I like the cheap Elmer’s glue)
  • Handles for drawers or cabinets

Make your own marble tray for less than $5! chemistrycachet.comI picked out handles that were elevated a little bit so I could easily pick up the tray and use it for serving, but you can definitely pick out any kind you like. Handles can get a little expensive, so I picked out some that were a little over $1.

Step 1: Measure where you want your handles to be. This is important so you get them even! I have a tendency to NOT measure anything, but for this I took the time 🙂

Step 2: Mark the area you want the glue with a marker.

Step 3: Glue a large amount on that spot, set the handle on the spot, then add additional glue around the bottom so it has double adhesive. The handles should stay up themselves, but if you need to, prop them up with something. I recommend doing one at a time to make it easiest.

You may remember this fun office tray I made from an old frame earlier this year, that is another fun gift idea. It is a little more involved, but equally as pretty!

I love making personal, cute gifts for my friends at Christmas, so I plan on making many of these 🙂

    1. Thanks Trish! I love how great it is for coffee tables and desks 🙂

    1. This is really easy to do even if you don’t normally make things! The only thing is to make sure to let the glue dry for awhile, even overnight! That was the hardest part, trying to move it too soon 🙂

  1. Hi Alexis – this is very clever, easily sourced and easy to make… winner! Never even thought to use a tile as tray – I could do a coaster… just need to expand the idea! And tile selection is vast! Great idea!

    1. I have made coasters with tile too, it turns out really good! I love going to Lowe’s because they will cut any size you want 🙂 Thanks so much Laurie, have a great day!

  2. This is such a clever idea Alexis. Making it so pretty for practically nothing. And trays ae so useful, you can never have enough!

    1. Thanks Mary! I agree, you can never have too many trays, they are so versatile!

    1. Yes!! I finally got my red cup and it felt like it was really getting close to Christmas 🙂

  3. This is an awesome idea. I would love to make more handmade gifts this year so for sure, I’m going to give this a try – one for me first.

    1. Thanks girl!! These are so great to make for gifts! I hope you have fun making some 🙂

  4. Gasp! A red cup! …And that’s how much I care about CupGate. >_>
Great tutorial. For added marbling detail you could also take a bit of black paint and a feather and delicately trace marbling patterns with the paint feather, then set with clear coat. I have never actually done this, but I fantasize about doing it to my kitchen counters.

    1. That’s a great idea! Marble is always such a great look for anything! 🙂

    1. Thanks so much Trisha! It’s super easy to make too, which I love in a DIY! Have a great day!

  5. What a great idea to use a marble tile. I’ve always thought it would be wonderful to have marble counters or marble floors, but using one marble tile as an accent piece would bring in the look of marble without the crazy-out-of-my-reach price tag. Brilliant!

    1. Thanks so much Rebecca! I love how affordable is, but looks so much more expensive. I have had so many people asking where I bought it 🙂

  6. Well that was nice and easy and so cool.

    1. Thanks so much Kathleen! That is great news! Have a wonderful day!

    1. It’s super easy! And it looks so nice people have no idea it’s a DIY 🙂

  8. Wow, what a fun (and CHEAP!) idea!! What about cutting a square of felt and glueing it to the underside, just to protect the furniture? Since felt is so inexpensive, it wouldn’t be adding that much to the total cost. 🙂 Thanks so much for linking up to Frugal Fridays!

    1. Hi Ann, thank you! You could definitely use some felt, or I have also bought those round stick ons that come individually. They are fairly cheap too! The tile I bought has those soft rivets on the bottom, so it is pretty soft. But that is a great idea! Let me know how it works out if you decided to make it 🙂

  9. It looks great Alexis – thank you for sharing with us on Pin Worthy Wednesday 🙂
